Why we built WiseSam

AI assistants exist everywhere — but none of them actually do things for you. We set out to change that. Here's the story behind WiseSam and the problem we're solving.

Why we built WiseSam

When we started WiseSam, we weren't thinking about AI. We were thinking about time. Specifically, how much of it the people we knew — designers, consultants, busy parents, small business owners — were spending on tasks that felt important but were, in truth, completely automatable.

The problem with AI assistants today

The first wave of AI assistants — Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant — were great at answering questions. Ask them anything and they'd give you an answer. But they couldn't do anything for you. They were encyclopaedias with a voice, not assistants.

Then came ChatGPT and the large language model revolution. Suddenly AI could write, reason, summarise, translate. Brilliant. But still, it couldn't send an email on your behalf. It couldn't check your calendar and tell you that you're double-booked. It couldn't proactively alert you that an invoice has been sitting unpaid for two weeks.

We didn't want an AI that could talk about doing things. We wanted one that actually did them.

Our insight: an assistant, not a search engine

The difference between a search engine and an assistant is agency. A search engine responds to queries. An assistant anticipates needs, takes action, and reports back. We wanted to build the latter.

WiseSam lives in the apps you already use — WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram. It has its own private email address. It can read and reply to messages on your behalf (with your approval), research topics on the internet, manage your calendar, and send you proactive briefings every morning.

Security first, from day one

We knew from the beginning that asking people to trust an AI with their communications was a high bar. So we built privacy into the architecture, not as a feature but as a constraint. Sam has its own email address — it never reads your personal inbox unless you explicitly grant access. Every integration is opt-in. You control exactly what Sam can and cannot do.

Where we're going

We're starting with the basics: email, messaging, calendar, research, and proactive briefings. But the platform is designed to grow. More integrations, more skills, more ways for Sam to help. The goal is simple: two minutes to set up, and then it does the rest.

If you're on the waitlist, you'll be among the first to try it. We can't wait to hear what Sam helps you get done.
